THE Garden of Remembrance to mark the centenary of the Rising 1916 is nearing completion in Rathmore.

All aspects of the work will be finished very soon and there will be an opening date announced shortly.

Rathmore Community Council volunteers have put in so much great time and effort to the project at Ard Mhuire and they are currently adding the finishing touched to the very special garden.

Walk: The 10th and final Sheila Moynihan Memorial sponsored walk raised almost €4,000, If there is any outstanding money or if anyone would like to donate please hand it into any of the committee members as soon as possible. The cheque will be handed over to the Kerry Hospice in the next couple of weeks.

Deaths: Sympathy is extended to John O’Leary, Ard Mhuire, Rathmore, on the recent death of his brother, Matty O’Leary, Milleen, Cullen and to Ned Carey, Shinnagh Lower, Rathmore on the death of his brother, Joseph. May they both rest in peace.

Football: Best of luck to Aidan O’Mahony and Paul Murphy who line out with the Kerry seniors on Sunday against Clare in Croke Park and to Mark Ryan, Brian Friel and Dean Fitzgerald who play with the with Kerry minors against Derry in the curtain raiser.

Planning: Rathmore Community Council welcomes Kerry County Council’s granting of planning permission for a doctor’s surgery at the Rathmore Social Action Group Day Care Centre.

Win: Congratulations to Tara Collins, Knocknaloman, Rathmore, who won £300 for nominating a dog at the Friends of University Hospital Kerry’s night at the dogs.

Music: At Tureencahill Community Centre on August 9, 10 and 11 there will be music, talks and performances to highlight the Sliabh Luachra musicians. It is open to all ages and the cost is €30.
Barbecue: Tureencahill’s annual barbecue, with chef Denis Doody takes place on Sunday, August 7 at 1.00pm with music by Tim Gleeson and Mike Cronin. Hurling: Well done to all the Under 16 players who played with South Kerry in the County Hurling Championship plate quarter-final against Crotta in Kilmoyley. It finished South Kerry 2-9 Crotta 4-11.
Well done also to our Under 10 hurlers who played St Pats and Firies in Fossa.

Camp: A hurling camp will take place on August 2 to August 4 in Rathbeg from 10.00am to 2.30pm. Registration is on the Tuesday at 9.30am. The cost is €30 for first the child and €25 for each sibling after that. There will be a free sliothar for every child attending camp.
