Legion’s under 16 boys defeated a gallant Gneeveguila by 2-14 to 0-8 in the East Kerry Division 1 championship. Legion got off to the better start. Tadhg Doolan was in impressive form up front, winning plenty of ball while Niall McGillicuddy was as reliable as ever and he converted several difficult frees.

Darragh Lyne and Evan Smith had a great battle in midfield with Darragh kicking a lovely point from distance. Legion’s defense was in a mean mood once again and this was our third game in a row not to concede a goal.

Kieran O’Donoghue and Adam Kissane had terrific games in the backs while Peter O’Sullivan’s powerful running saw him score three super points from wing-back. At half-time it was 0-8 to 0-2.

Gneeveguila shot out of the blocks in the second half, reducing the score to 0-9 to 0-5 but our lads upped the ante and were awarded a penalty after Tadhg Doolan was fouled by the keeper. Ryan O’Grady made no mistake and slotted home the ball.

William Shine made a big impact when he was introduced while his under 14 team-mate, Darragh Fleming made no mistake when he found himself unmarked at the back post, tapping in a perfectly floated cross. It was a good all round team performance with seven different players getting on the scoresheet.

The club would like to wish the young Gneeveguila player who got injured today a speedy recovery. The final score was Legion 2-14 Gneeveguila 0-8. We now meet Rathmore in the final.

Mass: Many thanks to everyone who attended our Club Mass on Friday last. Celebrant Fr Simon Twomey gave a wonderful service and well done to all who participated in the readings, the choir and the prayers of the faithful. Special thanks to all who helped prepare the sandwiches, buns and light refreshments especially Joanne Downey. They certainly went down well and added to a nice occasion in the clubhouse.
