16 poems, one anthology and still dreaming

A NEW anthology by Kerry poets, launched in Muckross House, Killarney, has been a project very close to the heart of Kerry County Council’s writer-in-residence, Annemarie Ní Churreáin.

She has been mentoring and supporting emerging writers and the anthology is one of the fruits of this labour. The title of the anthology, Still In The Dreaming, takes its name from a reference by the late Kerry scholar John Moriarty who used that term to describe the county’s landscape.

The book features poems that inspire, challenge and celebrate and it includes contributions by 16 poets who were selected via an open-call out and met during the summer of 2018 to help group-edit the selected poems.

The official launch at Muckross House was performed by Deputy Mayor of Kerry, Cllr John Joe Culloty, who praised the quality of the poems and the dedication of the writers to their craft.

Poets featured include Barbara Derbyshire, Bernadette Ní Riada, Conor Cleary, Elizabeth Murtough, Faye Boland, John McGrath, Kevin Griffin, Lola Scollard, Lorraine Carey, Marian Relihan, Mary Lavery Carrig, Michael Joyce, Noel King, Paul Murphy, Philomena Hearne and Victoria Kennefick.

Annemarie Ní Churreáin is a poet from Donegal and in 2016 she was the recipient of a Next Generation Artists Award from the Arts Council of Ireland.

Copies of Still In The Dreaming can be bought for a limited time through the Arts Office at Kerry County Council and they will also be available for loan through Kerry libraries.
