THE 10 main charities to benefit from the 2016 Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle have been revealed.

The bulk of the funds raised at the big event on Saturday, July 2 will go to the South West Counselling Services, St Joseph’s Nursing Home, Killorglin; Aras Mhuire, Listowel; St Ita’s & St Joseph’s Special School, Tralee; Pieta House Kerry; the Kerry branch of the Irish Kidney Association, Recovery Haven Cancer Respite, St Francis Special School, Beaufort; Derrynane Inshore Rescue and Talbot Grove, Castleisland.

Event PRO, Cathal Walshe said the charities were chosen after an application process that began before Christmas.

“We were genuinely overwhelmed with the number of submissions received. It was hard to choose from so many deserving causes and we would like to thank all the unsuccessful applicants for their efforts,” he said.

“The chosen charities provide fantastic support to the people of Kerry and will benefit hugely from the money they receive from this year’s fundraising effort,” Mr Walshe added.

Last year over €1.85 million was raised and shared amongst nine chosen charities as well as 28 smaller charities in Kerry.

Now in its 33rd year, the fundraising cycle to date has raised an incredible €10.6 million for charities that benefit all the communities across the county of Kerry.

Registration for the lottery system closes on January 31.

“This leaves less than three weeks for people to register so I would suggest that all interested parties get moving and get registered,” Mr Walshe remarked.
